Facing Autism in New Brunswick: Dr. Eric Fombonne and Dr. Nancy J. Minshew Both Said Autism Increases are Real
" Nancy J. Minshew is finally ready to take off the gloves. After years of sitting back and hoping the science would speak for itself, the director of the University of Pittsburgh's Center for Excellence in Autism Research has decided it's time for her to take a personal stand. Autism is not caused by vaccinations, she says, and those who continue to push that theory are endangering the lives of children and misdirecting the nation's scarce resources for autism research." The weight of the evidence is so great that I don't think there is any room for dispute. I think …

Sister Sage's Musings: Canada’s Oldest Radio Station Has Gone off the Air: Is New Technology Taking Over Commercial Radio as We Know it?
Indeed, another hit to commercial radio happened in Montreal today. Canada’s oldest radio station (arguably perhaps even the world’s oldest), originally sporting the call letters XWA in 1919, changing to CFCF (“Canada’s First: Canada’s Finest”) in 1920, and subsequent other call letters, frequencies and format changes for 91 years, ending up as CINW 940AM’s Greatest Hits, is now no more. 940 AM, owned by Corus Entertainment ceased programming at 10AM this morning along with French station, CINF Info 690Am and faded off the air at 7pm tonight. PEOPLE: R.I.P. HOWARD ZINN: Howard Zinn (August 24, 1922-January 27, 2010) has passed on to that great anarcho-syndicalist commune in the sky. Very much self-educated, despite his post WW2 degrees in history, his greatest education was when, as an airman in WW2 he participated in an April 1945 napalm raid on a group of German soldiers trying to wait out the end of the war in Royan France. The raid incidentally fried a number of French civilians and had absolutely no military value beyond racking up "promotion points" for the officers who directed it. This incident set Zinn on a lifetime …

Mind of Dan: The Impossible Hamster

I like this (and not just because I am a fan of giant space hamsters, and even miniature giant space hamsters), but I think the focus is wrong. It is not the size of the economy that maters but rather the environmental footprint of that economy. Typically the size of an economy is positively correlated to its environmental footprint, but that relationship is not set in stone, and if we wish to avoid disaster (be it climate related or some other environmental catastrophe) we need to ensure that the environmental impact of our economy becomes truly sustainable in the …

The verdict sends the message loudly and clearly: The pro-life/anti-abortion crowd can’t go around killing doctors who provide legal abortions, then throw themselves on the mercy of the court and claim they were only trying to prevent the deaths of innocent babies.

After finding that Omar Khadr's Charter rights have been violated by Canadian officials, the Supreme Court of Canada has decided to overturn the lower court's order to repatriate him and leave it up to that same Canadian government to decide what to do about it. In other words, King Stephen the Petulant can decide all on his own to leave Khadr in GTMO, wherever GTMO itself may end up (currently planned to be Illinois). That's the same King Stephen the Petulant who can phone the Governor General and tell her to suspend parliament just because he feels like it.
