You know, Adrian, when even a deranged loon like Connie Fournier can find a seat on the cluetrain, it has to be embarrassing when you're still getting your talking points off of Stephen Harper's tele-prompter. …

April Reign: Happy New Year?
I’m am endeavouring to feel optimistic about the coming year, sadly my cynicism keeps overpowering my optimism. With Harris on steroids in the PMs seat and an opposition that seems as useless as teats on a bull, I fear that this country is going down a long dark dirty road. I keep feeling as if I should apologize to my children for bringing them into this.
The last few years democracy has taken a beating and it seems the thugs and bully boys in power have no intention of letting it up just yet the proroguing of parliament was yet another kick in the teeth.
Those seeking to take away …

If I was going to go to a church, I'd want it to be one with music like this.
Jim Byrnes is back with a song called Jailbird. That's Steve Dawson on National Steel guitar.
And finally, here's Stevie Ray Vaughan and Albert King with Pride and Joy. Have a good weekend and a good year! …

unrepentant old hippie: El-Rushbo is A-Okay (physically speaking)
Gee, who’da thunk that an obese, cigar-smoking druggie would have heart problems? But that’s what a steady diet of haterade, hillbilly heroin and outrage will do for you, and a couple of days ago Rush was “rushed” to a Honolulu hospital (in a socialist ambulance) after experiencing the old telltale sign that the ticker is about to collapse under the weight of all that bile — chest pains. (Heart Attack in Honolulu — that could be a Tom Waits tune.)
Today his condition has been upgraded to “stable” and Rush says he’s “A-Okay” …

Sister Sage's Musings: Why Harpercons and other Neocons Have a Clear Advantage and Why it Must Change
After reading that title, anyone scared? You should be, that is, unless, of course, you are a neo-con and even then, much like the tea-baggers south of the border, they are only swallowing what today’t corporatist media is spoon feeding them. Like their tea-bagging friends, most don’t have a clue what they’re signing up.
Yes, today’s right slanted corporatist media, owned by Harpercon friendly corporations and individuals are running the show. They would only hire and publish or allow on the airwaves like minded writers, hosts and pundits. They are great at not only …

unrepentant old hippie: Nope, no racism here
Just to start the new year off on the right “foot”, let’s have a glimpse into the fetid fever swamp that passes for the “mind” of an average Sarah Palin supporter.
Here’s one who thought it would be cool to email her co-workers the following photoshopped image of President Obama and Sarah Palin:
No, really:
A 73-year-old Colorado Department of Transportation supervisor is in hot water after forwarding a Photoshopped image of President Barack Obama shining the shoes of Sarah Palin.
The e-mail, sent to at least four other CDOT employees on Dec. 22, contained …

Hooray! Hooray! The 2000s are over today! Let the New & Improved 2010s begin.
Hope you had a good first morning of this new decade — I think we can all agree that it can’t be any more of a disastrophe than the last one.
But through the good times and the bad, one thing that never changes is the attitude of kittehs:

Canadian Cynic: When the Liberals do it, they’re assholes.
Life was so much simpler back in 2005, when it was the Liberals who were undemocratic douchebags:Canoe.ca reports that the Liberals might prorogue Parliament in the fall as a way of giving themselves more time to put together a platform and to implement a cabinet shuffle. They’d also have a new Throne Speech in early 2006.In other words, it will hinder the work of Parliament for its own partisan purposes. They’ve already undermined the constitution to do this, why not prorogue Parliament. It's so cool that the Intertoobz never forget. …

Just in case it got lost in the end-of-year shuffle, let me once again remind you of this:Mr. Layton remembers when Mr. Harper, as leader of the Official Opposition, lambasting [sic] the Chrétien government's plans to prorogue Parliament back in 2003, to prevent the Auditor-General from reporting on possible abuse of the sponsorship program in Quebec.“The government will prorogue the House so that it will not be held accountable for its shameful record,” Mr. Harper thundered.Perhaps we should keep reminding folks of that on a regular basis. It's just a thought.OH, YEAH, THAT'S PRECIOUS: …

Facing Autism in New Brunswick: ASAN Board of Directors Excludes Autistic Persons with Intellectual Disabilities
Approximately 75-80% of persons with Autistic Disorder also have Intellectual Disabilities or cognitive impairment. Yet ASAN, the "Autistic" Self Advocacy Network Board of Directors has no members who represent that large segment of the Autistic Disorder community. The ASAN site profiles its directors all of whom are, by the descriptions on that site, very intelligent and do not have an intellectual disability. It is not clear if persons with Autistic Disorder are represented at all since the Directors are all described as being "on the spectrum":
"Ari Ne'eman ... is currently studying …

I hope that the huge gains New Brunswick has made in providing autism specific early intervention and education services are not lost, or diminished, in the face of economic instability that has emerged to shake the world. And I hope that needed changes can be made to improve the …
