Sister Sage's musings: Stevie’s Misadventures with the Boob Tube

October 22, 2009 by CK

The following video is dated: it was done when Georgie was still running the show in the U.S. It was submitted to Youtube before the last federal election to warn us of what would surely have been had Stevie won a majority then. I had an amusing time reading the Toronto Star article about how Ol' Stevie's  Harpercons' feigned shock over his revelation that he prefers to watch American news over Canadian news. Why so shocked, boys??As soon as I first read the story, this video was the first thing that came to mind. I thought I would post it to my page.Of course, much has changed since …

Sister Sage's musings: Canada worse than former Soviet-Union?? Some seem to think so

October 22, 2009 by CK

Ok, bear with me here, I'm a new blogger as you all know. I'm sure most of you reading here must have heard of Kathy Shaidle at Five Feet of Fury.  Well, I just caught something completely and utterly preposterous at her page earlier today. So many posts in one day! Wow! Well, I guess she doesn't have a job and given her postings so obviously have none or very little thought to them, it wouldn't take much to zip through them. Since there is no hyper links for each of her postings: the title is: Canada now ranked less free than former fascist, Soviet nationsYEP, in the world according …

Sister Sage's musings: ChecqueGate, Iggy’s Capitulation and other coincidences and No one Cares

October 21, 2009 by CK

There are indeed too many coincidences in the events of Canadian politics as of late.Checque-gate has created quite the scandal and that doesn't seem to lower the Harpercon numbers. Funny, how neo-cons in Canada still love to go after the Liberals for their past transgressions. They write checques signed by Harpercon MPs for con ridings as if they were Santa Claus, bankrolled by every Canadian tax-payer. Pale from A Creative Revolution wrote a great piece on the subject. Below is what a Harpercon checque would look like designed by Pale of ACR. I must say, I got quite a chuckle from …

Sister Sage's musings: Journalists May Have it Wrong About Quebec By-Election

October 18, 2009 by CK

I am speaking mainly of L. Ian MacDonald's opinion piece in National Post and Chantal Hebert's piece in the Toronto Star, regarding one Quebec riding up for grabs down river: Montmagny-L'Islet-Kamouraska-Rivière-du-Loup. In both of those pieces and in others, I'm sure, they presume the new 'star' candidate, Bernard Genereux will have support of Premier Jean Charest in the upcoming by-election. It is said that he has close ties to Charest's Liberals. I think they're assuming too quickly that Charest will back Genereux. As someone who has spent time in that part of Quebec, the folks of …

Sister Sage's musings: More Ironies of the Pro-life movement

October 18, 2009 by CK

I've gotta stop reading SUZY ALLCAPSLOCK's blogs. I know, I really should. Call it morbid curiosity, I guess. Here is her convaluded entry from this morning if anyone is as morbidly curious as I am.Basically, she is, of course on the Sawah bandwagon saying the U.S. shouldn't reform health care. She says that leaving it to the free market would be patient centred. She says: "Instead of working contrary to the free market, let’s embrace the free market." Embracing it? More like allowing it to run the country. She opens by giving offering a minor reason for the Global recession. That was how …

Sister Sage's musings: Saturday Night Brain Drain Fun #7 – GOP Unhappy disfunctional Family; Lost without Georgie

October 17, 2009 by CK

It's been a few days since I posted anything here. I wish I could say I was doing something constructive, but, I'd be lying. In all honesty, I've been spending too much time on Twitter as of late. It's morbid curiosity; I often wonder if these twits realize how idiotic they sound.I've also been having issues with blogger lately. I decided to give my page a make-over, because I really didn't like the other template. After I changed it, it wouldn't let me post anything new.First, here's a goody from Crooks and LiarsThe GOP, hell, Neo-Cons in general don't seem to be very happy people do …

Sister Sage's musings: In Canada, We’re a Left-wing Fringe Group: In the U.S. we’re a Pre-Existing Condition

October 14, 2009 by CK

Again, the left-winged fringe group gets the shaft in the U.S.  According to the criteria for many American Health insurance corporations, certain pregnancies, C-sections and being a victim of domestic violence can refuse are grounds for refusal.Procedures such as mammograms, pap-smears, and pre-natal care are not even covered under most insurance policies. Yet, women pay 48% more for their preniums than men in the same age bracket; same circumstance, same insurance carrier. Imagine that, women pay more for less service. The U.S. prides themselves on being a nation that believes in family …

Sister Sage's musings: Iggy Not Only Needs to Take Risks: He Needs to Play the Hero

October 13, 2009 by CK

Well, it seems that Stevie and Iggy are listening to their advisors and image consultants by actually letting loose and getting more contact with the Canadian voters. Granted, their actions as of late are nothing more than photo-ops to make them seem more human.Stevie lip synchs and plays a mechanical piano and jams with Yo Yo Ma and spent Sunday, the day before Thanksgiving playing cribbage with residents of a seniors' home in his riding of Calgary (where else would he be? Quebec??). Hell, Thanksgiving even made ol' Stevie say something charitable: "He suggested volunteering to serve …

Sister Sage's musings: Stop Trashing Public Sector Workers and Our Labor Unions

October 13, 2009 by CK

An opinion piece in The Montreal Gazette last week written by Paul Moist, the President of the CUPE is reminding us that one thing we can be proud of as Canadians are  things like Universal Health care,  public education and many other social programs. I agree with him on one thing, now is not the time cut services. Not while in the middle of a recession. Some may argue we are in recovery others say we aren't; depending who you talk to and what you read. Folks are still losing their jobs; with that comes the increased need for public services and social programs.Yet, the Quebec …

Sister Sage's musings: Pro-Lifer puts in Her Two Cents About Obama Winning Nobel On the ‘View’

October 12, 2009 by CK

We've heard every ridiculous reason from the notable right-wing fringe as to why they're against Obama winning the Nobel Peace Prize. Everything ranging from 'He isn't George W. Bush' to 'He hasn't done anything' to yes, even the only reason Obama got it was so Europe can re-colonize America: They need America for European Socialism to work. That, by far, is still my all time favourite. We heard from King Rush & Prince Glenn, The Tea-baggers & every other Neo-Con. It was only a matter of time before the Pro-lifers would chime in to complete the wingnut hit-parade.Well, who better …

Sister Sage's musings: Time For the Pope to Set an Example

October 11, 2009 by CK

As I'm sure most of you, one of the vows future priests and nuns take is that of living in poverty; a humble life. To be fair, most priests live modestly in Church Presbyteries or perhaps in a house or apartment on church land. The Catholic clergy are forever trying to persuade us to give to charity or to volunteer; to help those less fortunate than ourselves. This week-end's sermon at my parish was reminding us "It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."  from the Gospel according to Matthew. The priest …

Sister Sage's musings: October 15: A Date for Wingnuts

October 11, 2009 by CK

Looks like October 15 will be a busy day for wingnuts all over. Will President Obama need to hide out or flee the country? Before I get to the scary silent video I just came across at Crooks and Liars, let's start with this whackjob of a blogger who calls herself Voting Female. According to this blithering idiot, Judge Joel Schneider of the U.S. district of  New Jersey has given Obama has until October 15 to produce documents proving he is indeed an American citizen. She has a mountain of links pertaining to this subject; of course all neo-con blogs and news media sites. I thought I would …

Sister Sage's musings: OK, Right-Wing Radio Hosts! Quit the Obama Bashing Already

October 10, 2009 by CK

I don't know why we leave the radio on in the kitchen. I truly don't. Perhaps it's to discourage potential mice from hybernating there. Yah, that must be it!Perhaps President Obama isn't the first choice for many to win the Nobel Peace Prize. However, I can understand the rationale behind it. Eight years of Georgie brought darkness & a sense of helplessness to the U.S. Wars that aren't winnable with much blood shed & financial cost at the expense of his own citizens' welfare, favours for his buddies from Goldmann Sachs & rest of Wall Street & of course, his oily buddies.Perhaps …

I, like so many others, aren't really paying as much  attention as with the Feds. There are not even that many billboards up. If one were to read the comment boards of this article, it would seem that most are cheering for the oncoming Stevie majority. Don't be fooled, they want an election yesterday. Sister Sage's musings: Wheeling & Dealing Hypocrisy in Afghanistan

October 8, 2009 by CK

Why is this a suprise? I knew it: I would hazzard a guess that even most journalists knew it. Now the CBC has just come out with a story that Peter MacKay, the federal defense minister, saying that we will stay in Afghanistan past 2011; but not in a combat role. He also says that we're going to stay to help with 'reconstruction' (nice to clean up after a party ain't it?) &  train the Afghan Security forces. Weren't those the same forces who abused young children?. Yikes! Yah! Right! If you believe that it would not be a combat role, I have some swamp land in Florida to sell …

Sister Sage's musings: The Shock Jock Wannabe of Toronto! RANT ALERT!!

October 5, 2009 by CK

He really is! That's right! I am talking about Ryan Doyle. I swear Rush Limbaugh must be his hero. His show is, unfortunately, is simulcast with CJAD here in Montreal. Ok, why should I be this shocked? After all, a large group of these Astral Radio hosts are right-winged, but I would like to believe that the right-leaning hosts here in Montreal would at least have the decency to not praise things like privatized health care & Dead Peasant Insurance or condemn a factory sit-in of hard working citizens laid off without even their pay checque. Apparently, like most of these American shock …

Yes, I just broke one of my rules & took the bus Downtown to pay full price for a movie in the theatre instead of waiting for it come out on DVD; movie theatres are not good for migraine sufferers such as myself, but I couldn't wait to see it. I'm glad I did.Michael Moore never fails to inform & entertain. His latest effort, Capitalism, A Love Story is no exeption. Once again, he shows he is not afraid to confront the establishment. What's funnier is I'm not really sure why. Is it because Canadians are really becoming more Libertarian; more attracted to the GOP way of life? October 2, 2009 by CK

'Bye Bye Bernie!' is what Mayor Tremblay should be saying to this capatialist, racist, misogynistic buffoon. However, he is not telling him that of course. Exactly as I pointed out in Wrong Formula Montreal..., it would only be a matter of time before Ol' Bernie would threaten to pull the Grand Prix out of Montreal yet again. I mean, I always knew the U.S. was becoming more & more of a dangerous place to be, thanks to wingnuts toting guns & chanting the sanctities of the free market, private for profit health care only, stamp out socialism, etc. etc. Hell, Rush Limbaugh even started hinting that the U.S. should go back to racial segregation.I remembered after President Obama was elected, Facebook page statuses would read like "Yes, he can!"
