NEW MEDIA AND POLITICS CANADA: Will The Next Tommy Douglas Please Stand Up – The Old Tommy Douglas Can’t Stop Rolling Over

December 29, 2010 by Robert P.

The Conservatives and NDP are working on a plan to pass the next budget. They say there is nothing to be gained from an election. I guess that means there is nothing for them to be gained, Liberals taking away votes from the NDP and Fearless leader figures he can't get a majority. The NDP will play hard to get until they get bought with some tax break or such thing for somebody that in the end will never actually happen.(still waiting on that torture statement from that  government group of MP's, so I guess we tortured a whole bunch and they are chicken to say) Speaking of mistreatment …

NEW MEDIA AND POLITICS CANADA: No Penny- First Step To Cashless Society

December 15, 2010 by Robert P.

Lots of talk of the news about getting rid of the beloved penny. Apparently it's the slacker friend that lives on your couch of coins. Oh my god it cost more to produce than its worth, than make a cheaper coin. Maybe thinner or plastic, if their so worthless than no worry about counterfeit. Until they prove themselves worthy of trust, if it's proposed by the government it's bad idea. First they came for the pennies, and I used nickels. then they came for the nickels, and I used dimes.... now all we use is a plastic card A thought just went up four cents. And their saying no penny won't harm …

NEW MEDIA AND POLITICS CANADA: Bolivia Rocks

December 14, 2010 by Robert P.

Just noticed the part about Bolivia in Karl's post, way cool. They should be in charge of the world. And they just lowered the retirement age to 58 from 65. Of course when ever I hear Bolivia I think of murderous CIA bastards, and all the evils the US has done in Central America, tomorrow is BAN BANANA REPUBLIC DAY.(Please Mr. Harper honour the day and step down) And all that stuff in the 80's, imperialist bastards. Kinda like the 80's all over again, except no Dead tour (w/Jerry) to regain sanity. Maybe a little predictable, but hey it's just so 80's, one aspect anyways. …

NEW MEDIA AND POLITICS CANADA: When We Did It, It Was OK- But Don’t You Think About It- New North American Motto For The 21′st Century

December 10, 2010 by Robert P.

If this story doesn't make you proud to be a Quebecer or a capitalist I don't know what will. It's good to see the Jean Charest Liberal government isn't going to let a few lives several thousand miles away get in the way of profit and votes. Even though asbestos is outlawed for use in North America, and the European Union, one minor  drawback, it's cancer causing. Anyway they got no problem selling the crap to the third world and are contemplating a huge loan to start up second mine. Quebec's only place that still mines asbestos. Some protestors were in Montreal to point this out …

NEW MEDIA AND POLITICS CANADA: Good News Canada Fourth Best At Bringing About Climate Change

December 7, 2010 by Robert P.

I've never been so proud to have been conceived on the land mass commonly known as Canada. According to the CBC Canadians are the fourth in the race to bring about climate change. Only Saudia Arabia, Kazakhstan and Australia are doing more. But I'm sure with Fearless Leader showing us the way and if we all pull together as a team I won't have to shovel in no time and we'll finally be able to discover that allusive northwest passage. So don't forget to warm up your car a good long time before you get in, it's the little things that count and add up to fun in the sun. It's all a big …

NEW MEDIA AND POLITICS CANADA: Watch On The Blog- No Fun In The Sun For Environment

December 6, 2010 by Robert P.

Watching an old movie Watch On The Rhine, about some folks trying to get the word out about the evil Nazi's. The more things change... Looks like our fearless leader Mr. Harper gave the personal ok to $7,400 worth of drinks for civil servants and some fancy shindig. All the un savoury details can be found at this link. Not sure how this is going to help get rid of the deficit, but I doubt Fearless Leader really cares past that it sounds good when he's trying to get votes. Canadian troops are going on the offensive in Kandahar, Operation Baawar, thats assurance in Pashto. I can see the adds …

NEW MEDIA AND POLITICS CANADA: Don’t Do As I Do, Do What I Say

November 29, 2010 by Robert P.

It's a strange Grey Cup Sunday evening, Wikileaks, verge of war in Korea, not so good elections in Haiti and a few by-elections that will probably go the Conservative's way. Wikileaks are everywhere on the news, more like a hole in the pipe than a leak. Aside from the obvious embarrassing moments for the people concerned it brings up how far the difference is between the powers that be and the rest of us who have to deal and live with their consequences. Ask the folks in Ireland what they did to cause the strife they'll have to put with for the next decade. Speaking of a double standard it …

Looks like we have an opposition after all, Bloc Quebecois leader Gilles Duceppe will be calling for a vote in the house of commons concerning the extension of the mission in Afghanistan. (One good thing about being in Afghanistan for so long I can spell it now no problem. Now we just have to invade Kasikstan.) NEW MEDIA AND POLITICS CANADA: Hard Ball Politics Or Don’t Drink The Brown (Radioactive) Tea

November 16, 2010 by Robert P.

Looks like we'll be finding out the details of the "non-combat" role the army will be doing in Afghanistan on Tuesday. According to the CBC there will be 950 military personal helping out  until the 2014 (if they don't extent the mission again) or when the cows come home, or the Leafs win the Stanley Cup which ever comes first. With the release of pro-democracy leader Aung Sung Suu Kyi (pronounced souki like the Montreal Expos first mascot) looks like things are getting touchy between the Burmese military and Karen rebels. NEW MEDIA AND POLITICS CANADA: This Is What Happens When You Live In A World With No Opposition

November 13, 2010 by Robert P.

According to Prime Minister Harper there is no need for a vote in the House of Commons concerning the extension of the Afghanistan mission. The reasoning being that since (they believe) this is strictly a training, non-combat the Prime Minister has the power to so send them young men and women. With no opposition to say other wise looks like it's a done deal.  Bob Rae liberal foreign affairs critic had this to say, "If it truly is a non-combat mission, and we're looking at a training mission, then to require a vote on something like that would be very unusual," Rae said. "We have troops …

NEW MEDIA AND POLITICS CANADA: Post Remembrance Day Post

November 12, 2010 by Robert P.

(Anja Niedringhaus/Associated Press) There is an interesting article on the CBC website quoting retired general Rick Hillier saying that it will be easy in theory to say the troops will be training in non-combat situations but in practice it will not be so cut and dry. (why am I not surprised ) The Anti-terrorist head quarters in Pakistan was attacked on Thursday killing twenty people and injuring one hundred. The G-20 is meeting in Seoul, trying to figure how to fix the mess they made while pretending they get along. (with any luck Prime Minister Harper will fall in love with Korean …

What is the National Citizens Coalition? According to Wikipedia. The National Citizens Coalition is a Canadian conservative lobby group. It was founded by Colin M. Brown in 1967 …

NEW MEDIA AND POLITICS CANADA: Fu@#&$ UP Conservatives+ Lazy Opposition = Never Knowing The Truth

October 14, 2010 by Robert P.

Is it just me or are we all wondering when we will get the results of this Parliamentary committee delving into how much us Canadians torture and abuse our Afghan allies.  I'm assuming we haven't heard anything because the fools on the hill are too embarrassed to come out with the truth. Since all the parties are complacent in the cover up and promoting the use of enhanced interrogation (are apathy makes us complacent) I figure they all have much too loose if they ever deemed us worthy enough to treat with respect. NEW MEDIA AND POLITICS CANADA: Prime Minister Buying Votes In Quebec- Things That Conflict With Yom Kippur

NEW MEDIA AND POLITICS CANADA: Harper Panders To Far Right Under Vail Of Common Sense

The Harper government plans on eliminating the penalty of jail for failure to fill out the census. Hidden under the vail of common sense is the further pandering of the far right by the Conservatives. Truly the only people objecting to the forms are the far right tea party types who fear the government is going to take there guns now that they know how many bathrooms they have to hide them in.
